Are Weekly Therapy Sessions Necessary?

Updated 04-Oct-2020 - First Published 02-Aug-2019 by Debi Douglas

I highly recommended that therapy is attended each week consecutively - especially at the beginning of therapy.

Therapy should be treated with the same importance as any other area in life which requires commitment and dedication to achieve desired results.

I have seen throughout my years as a clinician the clients who stay involved in therapy get the best results. Depending on the severity and intensity of the presenting concern, every other week in therapy may be considered.

However, I believe 3 to 4 weeks of weekly consecutive sessions should be attained. Then an assessment is discussed between client and therapist to determine progress in treatment goals. At this point, length of time and frequency of therapy will be determined. The recommendation may be continued weekly sessions, every other week or even once per month until successful discharge is achieved.
